Barnegat Light Jetty - A Day Outing

Photographed on January 21, 2018

My friend Pete Volkmar randomly contacted me and invited me to visit the jetty with him one evening.  We arrived to almost completely overcast light but made the best of it with the friendly Harlequin Ducks and other winter residents of the jetty.  Unfortunately Pete had to leave a bit earlier then me so he missed the incredible sunset.  This was also the first time I really started playing around with using a wide angle lens at the jetty.  I brought my 24mm prime lens and tried my best to get somewhat close to the shorebirds that live on the jetty and are usually quite friendly.  While I was never able to get quite close enough I was able to make a few interesting wide angle shots and some really cool silhouettes with the beautiful sunset.  Below are some of my favorites from that evening including by far the most cooperative female Long-tailed Duck I've ever encountered.

Nature photography has become a very passionate hobby of mine and whenever I get a chance I love to get outside and enjoy being outdoors. I am also the co-owner of KGM Expressions, a wedding and portrait photography business, with my wife Kim. This is how we make our living and I love that we get to do that together.
