While in Florida this past winter I was lucky enough to be staying within walking distance to a little park called Easy Street Park. The name says it all! My wife and I would walk our dog there multiple times a day and I quickly learned this park would be a great place for bird photography. After a while I noticed there was one particular corner where many wading birds would congregate and wade in the shallows picking out small minnows. There was a great variety of birds and it was surprising to see some of them there were countless people would walk their dogs just 30 feet away. On this morning I arrived at the park before sunrise and stalked down to the shoreline at the popular corner. I laid down along the edge of the small lake and waited. It didn't take long before birds were coming right in and I had Snowy and Great Egrets right in my face. I was able to capture a ton of portraits as well as some great fishing action. It was a blast and as the sun came up and started shining on the white birds I was also able to make a few really dramatic portraits. A Tricolored Heron stopped in for a quick visit as well. I had also noticed a resident Pied-billed Grebe on this lake and was hoping I would get a close shot of it as well. I was able to get a few shots but nothing really close like I'd hoped. It was still nice to see and great when I caught it with a fish as well. I hope you enjoy this set and hopefully it proves you don't always have to travel to exotic locations to get some great bird photography opportunities, especially in Florida!
