After photographing a Black Skimmer colony for the entire afternoon, the light had pretty much tanked in the area those birds were staying. I was walking around to see what else was around and I found this Laughing Gull and a pair of Herring Gulls. I quickly noticed the last bit of sunlight was reflecting on the wet sand right near the ocean's edge. The Herring Gulls quickly moved away and so I put all my attention to the Laughing Gull. It was slowly walking around and moving with the waves so it caused me to have to crawl around in the sand to position the bird in the brightest spot in the background. It's a pretty standard portrait pose of the bird just standing there but I really liked the dramatic orange spotlight that also had color contrast with the deep blue of the wet sand.
