Royal Silhouette

I went to this spot just to photograph Royal Terns in backlight and silhouetted. The background didn't work out great for backlit photos especially since the sun was so intense that evening. With no humidity it was super clear and very strong light. So I switched into sihouette mode and tried to get creative. For this shot the sun is actually being reflected in the foreground water. The reflected sun was just a bit less bright than the actual sun in the sky so I decided to include the reflection instead of the sun in the sky. It made for quite an interesting shot and my exposure was maxed out for how dark I could take the shot and not close down my aperture. I really wanted the shallow depth-of-field and so I dropped the ISO as low as it goes and maxed the shutter speed. The Royal Tern was a great subject to silhouette with its lovely crest.

Nature photography has become a very passionate hobby of mine and whenever I get a chance I love to get outside and enjoy being outdoors.
