Little Blue Stalk

There is nothing quite like watching a wading bird stalking and striking out at prey. The way they move so slowly and with such purpose and intensity is quite impressive. This was taken in the middle of a very sunny day but I caught the heron stalking prey in the shade of some trees so the light on the bird was really soft even though the background completely went white. I was working hard to keep focus right on the eye and let the rest of the bird go out of focus to really draw the viewer's eye right to the bird's yellow eye. I missed the strike as it grabbed a small crab and then ran away to eat it quickly.
