River Singer

I love how far away you can hear the Louisiana Waterthrush belting out its loud and beautiful song. Well before you can even think about seeing it you can hear them. This river is one of the best settings I've ever photographed the species in, every time it keeps getting better. Last year I had them in a great spot, this year I found two of them in even better locations. This spot was just right for a vertical composition that included the singing bird up high on the perch, the huge boulder that was covered in such great texture and the running water below. I was really happy with how it all came together in the composition and even with the bird so small it stood out nicely in the scene. This is just my kind of bird photo, it really shows off the incredibly unique habitat they live in, which is the main reasong I enjoy working with them every year.
