Classic Common Loon Portrait

I was recently going back through some of my Common Loon photos that I never shared and this one stood out as a simple and classic bird portrait. The bird had swam into the shade of the nearby trees on an otherwise completely sunny morning. This soft light gave me the ability to get plenty of detail in the dark black of the head as well as the stark white of the breast. The sky reflecting in its incredible deep red eye really made the portrait come to live in my opinion and the smooth green and brown background just melted away making it all about the bird. I don't tend to shoot this type of close up portrait very often but I do appreciate it when it works out so well.
