Lawrence's Warbler in the Rain

This is the last warbler I expected to see while out in the rain all day a few days ago. I have an upcoming warbler workshop so even with the heavy rain all day I was out scouting to find the birds for my group. I was successful at finding what I normally expect but when my friend and I stopped in this one spot to try to photograph a Yellow Warbler we heard calling we had no idea what was going to happen next. As we were waiting for the Yellow Warbler to land in a good spot I kept hearing a Blue-winged Warbler calling. I didn't pay much attention until I saw a bird hop up high on a nearby tree. As soon as I saw it I started practically yelling at my friend to "photograph that bird". I knew right away it was a rare hybrid Lawrence's Warbler which is a combination of a Golden-winged and Blue-winged warbler and this is the version that is recessive hence more rare. It was a stunning bird and seemed rather content to feed and sing in the area we were hanging out in. We spent nearly an hour hanging out with this bird in the rain and I have a lot of great photos I'm very happy with of this bird. It really made the soggy and pain in the ass day of shooting in the rain well worth it all!
