My last visit kayaking out into the bays along the New Jersey coast. It was still really warm and the water inviting to sit and lay in. I paddled out to the exposed sandbars to see what late fall shorebirds would be migrating through. I found the standard Black-bellied Plovers, Semipalmated Plovers, and mixed gulls. What I never expected was a pair of Hudsonian Godwit that were incredibly cooperative and gave me a ton of opportunities to photograph them. At one point one of them walked right up to me as I sat in the shallow water. For my first time ever seeing this species it was an incredible experience.
