Dramatic Summer Tanager Portrait

I saw my first ever Summer Tanager at this same location about a month ago but didn't have the time to spend trying for good photos. I finally got around to returning to this location and was able to spend more time with some of them. The light was very dim on this early overcast morning but thanks to an opening in the trees above the perch it made a sort of spotlight on the perch and the brilliant red bird with a nice dark background. I kept the composition a bit more scenic to include that bright green moss on the left of the log that I really liked.

Nature photography has become a very passionate hobby of mine and whenever I get a chance I love to get outside and enjoy being outdoors. I am also the co-owner of KGM Expressions, a wedding and portrait photography business, with my wife Kim. This is how we make our living and I love that we get to do that together.
