Defending Until the End

This little Blue-claw Crab didn't stand a chance against this Yellow-crowned Night Heron. The heron had already pulled the crab from the water and ripped off one of it's claws. When it dropped the it, the crab tried to back away and raised its small claw in the only defense it had. The heron wasn't slowed down one bit and stepped in for the next move. The heron expertly grabbed the crab right on the one remaining claw and proceeded to rip that off leaving the crab defenseless. I really found this image powerful in how it showed this little crab defending its life until the end. From the moment it was caught I could tell it didn't stand much of a chance but it never gave up. It was an amazing interaction to watch and photograph and I'm so lucky it all happened in great light and parallel to mee so I could get both bird and crab in focus to show this fight for survival. These are the moments in nature I have been striving to capture lately.
