Tiny Cute Least Tern Chick

I spent many mornings on this beach waiting for this nest to hatch and photograph this very tiny and super cute Least Tern chick. It must have hatched since I had been there the day before when both eggs were unhatched. If you look carefully you can still see the second egg in the nest on the left of the chick. I was set up specifically to photograph the nest with the early morning sun backlighting everything and it gave me a great glow on the little chick and the great background glittering off the sand. I had not noticed this at all until I zoomed in to edit but if you look carefully at the egg you can see a tiny beak poking through the shell! By the time I left that morning the other egg hatched which was really incredible to see, I just wish I had realized it at the moment I took this shot so I could stay to watch it hatch.
