While Laughing Gulls are incredibly common along the New Jersey coast, trying to find a way to photograph them uniquely is still a challenge for me. The light on this particular evening was incredible and when I crossed paths with this bird I stopped to see what I could do. I slowly crawled up closer through the shallow water and waves. Once I got a good distance away I tried to place the bird's head and body in the darker background to really accentuate the rim-light glowing on the bird. It had just fully shaken out and I ended up with this roughed up look which I thought was sort of fun.
