Sunset Sanderling

I got myself in position to play around with backlight and silhouette with a mixed group of shorebirds and just waited for anything to come into the spot of glowing sun. This Sanderling wandered right into the sweet spot and I did my absolute best to get the bird in focus. With all that sun shining in the lens that task becomes rather difficult. I would have liked to be just a little bit lower to reduce the dark line in the background but the waves that were splashing around me as I lay in the water wouldn't allow that. I was thrilled when I saw this shot on the computer to see the golden orange bokeh in the foreground water.

Nature photography has become a very passionate hobby of mine and whenever I get a chance I love to get outside and enjoy being outdoors. I am also the co-owner of KGM Expressions, a wedding and portrait photography business, with my wife Kim. This is how we make our living and I love that we get to do that together.
