Black-Bellied Plover Portrait

It took us some time but the group I was with finally were able to crawl up on a small flock of resting Black-bellied Plovers and right at sunset. The light was just about perfect and even though most of the birds were slightly facing away, this one gave a good look back for this portrait. I always try to include some of the beautiful neon green grasses in the photos at this location, I think they add a great touch to the photo and help to give it a sense of place. The quarter mile away backgrounds also help to give great isolation to the birds. I love running workshops out here and have a couple of spots open if you would like to join me in mid-September at this incredible location.

Nature photography has become a very passionate hobby of mine and whenever I get a chance I love to get outside and enjoy being outdoors. I am also the co-owner of KGM Expressions, a wedding and portrait photography business, with my wife Kim. This is how we make our living and I love that we get to do that together.
